Welcome to Svenworld
Yes, I'm right here with you in cyberland, but I feel like we're evolving toward communication without computers. Or perhaps our capacity to directly tune in with each other is our natural state, and the computers and other gadgets we use right now are small steps on our path to relearning what we've known all along. However, as much as I am prone to looking at the very big picture through my chosen vehicles of music, writing, and evolutionary astrology, I like to remind myself that songs, ideas and computers cannot be eaten.
Therefore, I like to stick my hands in the ground as often as I can, with an occasional rolling around the mud, to remind myself that despite, or maybe especially because of all our human yearnings for clean and convenient ways to find enlightenment our beautifully fragile planet Earth is where all physical life begins and ends.
Tuber Creations - Seeds for Creative Change
Symbolizing this need for all things spiritual and creative to be firmly rooted in the ground is the tuber, a bulbous, usually underground stem, such as the potato, carrot, or the beet, bearing buds from which new plant shoots arise. These unassuming, yet most juicy little chunks have been a valuable source of nutrition in creating rudimentary connections, richly textured art, and of course, subversively delicious stews.
My Creative Seeds
Music
Music has always been a big part of my life, and for the last ten years my songs and philosophies have been watered and tilled in the musical fields of Chemystry Set. It is a very special family, creating music that has been called wild and roaming as the imagination of the unknown, like everything and nothing you've ever heard, a screaming reminder that rock is rebellion and must be reinvented each time it's played, or else it's just pop. Our 5th CD is currently in the works, its themes reflective of the band's many travels over the last few years, and digging deeper into the causes of human alienation from the web of life.
Writing
I like to write about everything and anything that inspires interesting ideas. I've been an editor and contributing writer at the grassroots political journal Garlic and Grass. Aside from having written more songs than I could ever memorize I've written for print publications like Global Rhythm and the SF Bay Guardian. Some of my most inspired stuff comes out in emails announcing Chemystry Set gigs. I've also written a book of stories that delve into the 12 astrological archetypes, accompanied by amazing paintings by my friend Evelyn Terranova, astrological interludes by Steven Forrest, and a CD by Chemystry Set. It's called Dancing on the Brink of the World, and the stories deal with everything from intergalactic symposiums on love and friendship to issues of homelessness right here on earth.
Evolutionary Astrology
Having been fascinated by astrology since I was old enough to understand that there is so much more out there than just us silly little humans, it just took the right kind of person to get me more seriously involved. Steve Forrest is one of the funniest and kindest people I know, and he happens to be the master of Evolutionary Astrology. What makes Evolutionary Astrology evolutionary is that it directly deals with past lives in one's chart by looking at the position of the moon's nodes at the time we were born. It's amazing the kind of information about the soul's journey you can glean from a chart. It has helped me to understand myself and other people much better, to look beyond the obvious cliches, and to see beyond right or wrong. I do readings, but usually don't push any of this on people.
…and yes, we've got to be on earth
I think all means to expand and evolve consciousness are awesome, and I like to think of all of us as timeless souls traversing a larger universal ocean. But, just as the 12th sign of the zodiac, mystical pisces, ultimately has to cycle back into the first sign, fighting aries, pure consciousness is incomplete without taking action. They both need each other, as both an unconscious warrior and a toothless mystic are not living up to their potential. In order to evolve into this upcoming new world we have to open our souls as well as be prepared to raise hell. Yes, meditate, but don't forget to instigate. Write poems, and ride your bike. Plant thoughts, and plant seeds. Be spiritual, and be political - be politual!
Love is the answer, the kind of love that has room for darkness to be navigated.
